Riverstone Village 192-488 NPO advocates for, and educates about, children’s rights.
Some of our current involvements include Right to Play SA, a consortium of South African individuals and NPO’s advocating for the child’s right to play. Je’anna Clements is a founder member of the executive committee of this group.
We also offer child-participation opportunities for young people to make their voices heard on policy and legislation matters, and recently coordinated a youth voices submission to the call for public comment on the Basic Education Laws Amendment (BELA) Bill.
Riverstone Village is also actively involved in the Social Inclusion in Education working group, concerned with gender fluidity and trans-gender rights in education.
Je’anna Clements (centre) with other members of the Social Inclusion for Trans-gender in Education working group, including Josh Sehoole (standing first left), Dr Finn Reygan from the HSRC (behind Josh), Dr Patricia Watson from the DBE (Seated front left), parent Melinda Swift (seated alongside Dr Watson, directly in front of Je’anna), Zachary Shimange from Earthworms (seated next), Michelle Beukes and Chris Vlavianos from Greenside High (left of Je’anna), and additional members from Iranti and other concerned Ngo’s.
