Leani Khan, B. Eng (Mechanical Engineering)
Leani currently volunteers as a breastfeeding peer supporter, and is the mother of two children under ten whom she supports in discovering their own way in life.
She is completely bilingual in English and Afrikaans, has good understanding of German and Dutch, is currently studying Danish, and has had past encounters with Latin and Arabic.
She practices contemporary dancing with a studio in Soweto; has also done modern, disco freestyle, and ballet; and is currently taking ballroom lessons with her partner. Riverstone Village community members often request creative dance sessions with her.
Leani finds an industrial plant as beautiful and inspiring as an art gallery. She has worked as a site engineer, compiling standard operating procedures, and then went on to write technical manuals.
She has a passion for mathematics and loves to calculate probabilities while washing dishes. And, she reads. She reads. She reads. And. She. Reads. Primarily classical fiction. Also, every one of Agatha Christie’s books, poetry, occasional fantasy books, philosophy, education, parenting, history, and the rare business book.
Leani loves conversations even more than reading. She enjoys working on her sewing skills, chess, sketching, journaling, and letter-writing. She also bakes her own rusks. Even when making cakes.
She is interested in astronomy and can spend hours gazing at the night sky, trying to keep warm. She enjoys identifying trees, veld-flowers and birds, and loves to hear a piet-my-vrou because they’re migrant birds and are only here in late spring.
